FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What are the criteria for serving as an IBC Country Ambassador?

  • Multiple years experience of working at the management-level in the country.
  • Current in-country business contacts.
  • Current relationships with the economic development office of their country.
  • Are current on major country trends.
  • Speak the local language.

Who can use the Ambassador network? It is strictly "for members - by members".

What kind of questions can I ask? Anything related to that country. It doesn't mean the IBC-Ambassador has the answers but they can probably steer you in the right direction.

How should I frame my questions? Be as specific with your questions as possible.

What answers can I expect? Probably ranging from "Oh, I've come across this many times, here is what I know" to "I don't know this, but I know someone who may know, here is his number?", or, "I got some time and I have experience in this, wanna do lunch next week?"

What's the role of an IBC-Ambassador? An informal guide - making their country knowledge available by email, a 15 minute call, or if they're able and interested, could meet you for a coffee or a quick lunch.

Why does someone want to be an Ambassador? Their unique experience becomes visible and leverage-able in a new way for them, expanding their perspectives, knowledge and connections. They will learn through members' questions and develop additional expertise about their country. (You never learn more than when you teach).

I'd like to be an Ambassador, what's the time committment? Up to 1 hour a month. You can limit the number of email-inquiries you get from members to 5 or 10 a year.

The term of an Ambassadorship? 1 calendar year, renewable. New applications are reviewed annually. Ambassadorships are voted on by the Board.

DISCLAIMER: The IBCC can not, in any way, guarantee the reliability or accuracy of the information that is exchanged. The IBCC cannot guarantee that an IBC-Ambassador is able to answer your question at all, or within a certain period of time.

If such interactions result in a fee-based business relationship the Club asks for the gentleman-based courtesy of Patronage in support of the club (between $2,000 to $5,000). However, brokering professional deals is NOT the primary intention of the club. The primary intention is to facilitate volunteer-based, peer-to-peer support between members.
